The Upstanding terminal
emulator, FASTerm, runs on a personal
computer connected by a local area network to a Unisys A
Series/Clearpath host computer. It emulates the Unisys T27 terminal
and its predecessors. FASTerm offers much higher levels of
performance than a traditional terminal due to the use of a much
faster connection to the A Series host. In addition, FASTerm
provides some features, such as a fast file transfer, not otherwise
available. FASTerm is available for DOS, 16 and 32 bit Windows
Platforms and the Java virtual machine.
FASTerm Mobile
FASTerm Mobile for Palm is a T27 terminal emulator
providing access to Unisys ClearPath Plus MCP servers. FASTerm Mobile
for Palm is the newest member of the FASTerm family of emulation
products used by thousands of users for more than a decade.
FASTerm Mobile supports Wireless, Wi-Fi, and Bluetooth networking
capabilities and is compatible with third party VPN packages. FASTerm
Mobile uses standard TCP/IP and Telnet to establish a connection to the
mainframe. Both the Unisys TCP/IP stack and the LANwise TCP/IP stack
from Upstanding are supported.
FASTerm supports the full range of terminal escape sequences so full
compatibility with ClearPath applications is assured.
Screen data entry can come from the soft keyboard, grafitti, or your
Palm thumboard if so equipped.
FASTerm supports user assignment of terminal functions, such as
transmit, line transmit, etc., to the Palm application
and navigation buttons for customized operation. Fonts supported are 80
and 40 column high res fonts, and 40 and 32
column low res fonts, depending on your display capabilities. Two
terminal display pages are supported.
FASTerm Mobile for Palm requires Palm OS 3.5 or later. Typical Palm
handhelds supported include the PalmOne Tungsten, Zire, and Treo 600
models, SONY Clie models, and many others. To reach your mainframe, your
Palm must be equipped with a network communication capability, such as
Wi-Fi, Wireless, or Bluetooth.
FASTerm for
JAVA
FASTerm for Java is a terminal emulator written
in the Java
Programming language. FASTerm for Java emulates the Unisys T27
terminal and its predecessors to add Unisys T27 terminal emulation
to the World Wide Web and corporate intranets.
"T27 Terminal
Emulation for the web."
FASTerm
for Java is platform independent. Because it is written in Java, FASTerm for Java can be
run on various different platforms and their
operating environments, such as PCs, Macintosh and Unix machines,
and Network Computers (NCs). In addition, FASTerm for Java
promotes "zero administration desktop" initiatives by allowing you to
centralize program and configuration files on the A Series, decreasing
administration overhead, and increasing security and maintainability.
FASTerm for Java can be run in two ways - as an applet or an
application. FASTerm for Java
can run as an applet within a Java-capable Web browser or applet viewer,
or as an application within an operating environment that provides a Java
Virtual Machine. FASTerm for Java can be run as an applet by invoking the FASTerm for
Java class file from an apple tag within a Hyper Text Markup Language
(HTML) document or Web page. A web page
containing the FASTerm for Java applet can be designed
as any Web page would be with graphics, and hyperlinked text or
commands such as Unisys A Series system commands or functions.
FASTerm for Java provides terminal emulation in the "virtual machine"
created by a Java-capable Web browser or applet viewer when the
HTML document referencing FASTerm for Java is loaded.
FASTerm for Java can also be run as an application (i.e. outside of
a Web browser or applet viewer) by invoking the FASTerm for Java
class files on an operating system that supports a Java Virtual Machine,
or in conjunction with an operating system add-on that provides a Java
Virtual Machine.
The FASTerm for Java terminal emulator is distributed in two forms:
a lite version and a standard version. FASTerm for Java Lite provides
minimal feature content and is streamlined to load into a browser
quickly. The standard FASTerm for Java terminal emulator provides a
more feature-rich emulation environment at the
expense of a longer load time due to its larger size. Upstanding
FASTerm for Java is one of the several components within the
LANwise Web Suite
FASTerm for Windows
FASTerm for Windows is a terminal emulation package for users
running
Microsoft Windows, version 3.1 or later. With FASTerm for Windows,
customers can take advantage of Windows features such as scalable
type fonts, exchange data through Dynamic Data Exchange (DDE) and
print through either the standard Windows Print Manager or A Series-oriented printer pass-through.
FASTerm for DOS
The original FASTerm T27
emulator for DOS. This may be used to
avoid the expense of upgrading PCs to Windows capable platforms.
