business services, such as call center outsourcing or web site hosting, to
product integration, customization, and performance analysis.
The
company is also distinguished by the high caliber of its technical
support. Upstanding has a long history of providing mission-critical networking to the enterprise. It has developed, installed
and maintained TCP/IP networking products linking tens of thousands of
nodes for hundreds of institutions. It has also developed and deployed
resilient and data encryption features. This accumulation of
expertise put Upstanding in an ideal position to capitalize on the new and
powerful web-based paradigm of network computing.
With its introduction of the first A Series web server in 1995, the
company pioneered the use of Java applets distributed from a
mainframe to provide client applications. This opened up new
possibilities for supporting networks with thousands of PC terminals,
securely and with very low maintenance.
With many former Unisys developers in its ranks, Upstanding has an
uncommon breadth and depth of knowledge of the A Series architecture.
In working with many financial institutions, it came to understand the
techniques required to make core banking systems accessible from
today's pervasive Internet technologies.
This
unique knowledge was used to create solutions that bypass the traditional
limitations of the core banking application. With leading edge
Java and Internet technologies, plus the required mainframe expertise,
Upstanding brings improved customer service and reduced

Upstanding originally built its reputation by supplying innovative
networking capabilities to the A Series world. Heterogeneous networks
became practical and performance bottlenecks were eliminated. Audited
benchmarks showed Upstanding networking to run 4 times faster
than the competition, with less CPU utilization.
The company also blazed the trail in 1993 with the integration of
legacy systems into the client/server world, by opening up mainframe
databases to PC and Unix applications. More recent product introductions
provide interfaces that allow graphical user interfaces to be
developed
for mainframes using standard PC development tools and without
any modifications to the host application.
